Riots in Prison, 42 Prisoners were Killed Tragically

Amazon, Brazil - The Amazon Correctional Department stated that on Monday (27/5) at least 42 dead prisoners were strangled to die during gang riots in four prisons in Manaus, Amazon, Brazil.  The fight itself took place just one day after a similar riot took place in the same prison with until 15 people were killed.

According to the source, this feud was triggered by a dispute between members of two major drug cartels in Brazil, First Capital Command and Red Command.

It is reported that the riots in prisons are common in Brazil, where drug gang leaders usually control the prodeo hotel. One of the biggest prison riots in Brazil occurred in 2017, when 150 prisoners were killed in three weeks of massive riots in several detention centers.

However, most prisons in Brazil are registered at the state level. For decades, the prisons have become too full, becoming fields for drug cartels to recruit members, which is a huge concern for the government.

Responding to the situation, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has promised to retake control of the prison in his country. He also promised to build more secured prisons. They also ensured that the authorities have controlled the situation in the four prisons, without further explanation.
