Report Says, Thousands of North Korean Women Trapped as Sex Slaves in China

The newest report launched by London-based human rights group, Korean Future Initiative, is uncovering dark fact on thousands of North Korean women and girls who are victims of prostitution in China. This report was compiled based on a careful long-term engagement conducted by the group by collecting information from victims in China and exiled survivors in South Korea.

According to the report, North Korean females commonly aged between 12 and 19 are often coerced or abducted and then sold in China or trafficked directly from North Korea to become sex slaves. During the bondage, many are forced to work at least in one form of sexual slavery and can be sold more than once within a year.

They are usually enslaved in brothels located in satellite-towns close to large urban areas in northeast China.

Besides being involved in conventional prostitution, women and girls are also forced to perform sexual acts in the cybersex industry. Where they are often sexually assaulted in front of the webcams by the paying global online audiences, who are believed many of them are South Korea men. Women are also sold into forced marriage to men in rural areas, where they are at high risk of being raped and abused by their husbands.

One of the victims who told her story for the report said that she is also often mistreated by the broker.

The endless torture is getting worse because China can repatriate North Koreans, who will be punished after returning to their homeland. In consequence, they are trapped in this vicious circle.

It is estimated that the annual profits from exploiting North Korean women can generate up to US$ 105 million for the Chinese underworld.
