Regulation: MRT and BRT passengers need face masks to hop on

The Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, sent a letter to the President Director of the PT Transportasi Jakarta (TransJakarta), PT MRT Jakarta, and PT LRT Jakarta, to set a mandatory guideline for their passengers to wear masks. Moreover, Anies also told these public transportation companies to not let them in if they don’t comply with the rules.

The decision came as an effort by the Jakarta Government to tackle the growing number of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) case.

According to the Saturday’s letter last week, Anies urged the managers of TransJakarta, MRT, and LRT to massively socialize the policy at all stations, buses, and train cars starting 6 April to be implemented on 12 April 2020.

Responding to the letter, the Head of Corporate Secretary and Public Relations of TransJakarta, Nadia Diposanjoyo, agreed with what the Governor has in mind. TransJakarta will implement and socialize the policies as soon as possible. If passengers want to hop on, they should start wearing face masks.

The recommended mask is a two-layered mask. Should they not wear any mask, they are not allowed to come aboard.

For six days until 12 April, TransJakarta will be advising all passengers to use face masks to use its public transportation. TransJakarta also applies other rules such as checking sanitation at all stations and buses, physical distancing, temperature checking, and limiting the passengers at the buses and stations.
