Raheem Starling spoke up about football and racism at a New York culture festival

Raheem Starling talked about football and racism at New York “Wall Street Journal’s festival on Tuesday. With the theme “Brilliant minds, world-changing ideas: experience the future as it takes shape", Starling and WSJ’s global sports editor Bruce Orwell were chosen to be the speaker at the event.   

The Manchester City winger also talked about how athletes are using their platform for social issues campaign.

Starling leads the fighting against racism in football and has been the focus of headline this seasons. He also stands up for any racial abuse against himself  and other professionals.

Previously in December, he criticised how the media coverage black athletes. He said that sections of the British media was like a “fuel” to racism by using negative framing of young black players.

Another racist abuse also happened during England’s Euro 2020 qualifier in Montenegro in March, two of his England team-mates Danny Rose and Callum Hudson-Odoi were abused by fans. Later, he advised for stadium bans as sanction for racist abuse from fans.

Starling scored 25 goals for Man City during this season and bringing the Citizens to be the first team winning domestic treble. The Football Writers' Association awarded him as the best player of the season 2018-2019.
