PSG President, Nasser Al-Khelaifi Charged for IAAF Corruption case

Bad news comes from French football. President of the Paris Saint German club (PSG) was be suspected involved in an international corruption case. Currently, he has been investigated for alleged corruption as part of an investigation into the bidding process for the 2017 and 2019 Athletic World Championships.

Al-Khelaifi Representative  said that the case focused on alleged payments made by one of his companies to another company run by the son of former president of IAAC, Lamine Diack, during the process of negotiating the 2017 World Athletics Championship.

Quoted from the BBC and TSN on Thursday (05/23/2019), it was said that Al-Khelaifi, who is the Chair of the BEIN Media Group, was allegedly involved in a corruption case of 3.5 million dollars, or equivalent to Rp50.6 billion, to the Athletics Federation World (IAAF) in mid-May 2019. Two payments totaling 3.5 million US dollars (around Rp. 50 billion) were allegedly carried out in 2011. The allegations are currently under surveillance. But Al Khelaifi lawyer said the allegations were inaccurate and the payment was invalid.

Unfortunately Khelaifi's attempt to make Qatar host the 2017 World Athletics Championship itself was unsuccessful. The championship finally took place in London, England. However, Doha, Qatar, was successfully selected to host the 2019 World Athletics Championship which will take place in September-October.
