Indonesian Government decided to limit people's mobility by implementing large-scale social restriction (PSBB) to suppress the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) throughout Java island and Bali province. The Java-Bali PSBB will run into effect starting 11 January to 25 January 2021.

Speaking on Wednesday, the Chief of COVID-19 Management and National Economic Recovery Committee (KPC-PEN) and the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the decision is in accordance with the Government Regulation (PP) no. 21 of 2020 on the Large-Scale Social Restrictions in Order to Accelerate the Management of COVID-19.

Airlangga stated that the provinces throughout Java to Bali matched the perimeters determined in the PP. He also asserted that people are allowed to do activities, but not on a mass scale. The Coordinating Minister also stated that the Indonesian Government is monitoring the management of COVID-19 from COVID-19 risk zone, bed and ICU occupancy rate. Moreover, the government saw that the active COVID-19 has reached 14,2 percent.

Airlangga said that the PSBB in provinces, regencies, and cities have to fulfill the parameters regarding COVID-19 management. The parameters are:

1. The mortality rate is higher than the national mortality rate at 3 percent

2. The recovery rate is beneath the national rate at 82 percent

3. COVID-19 active case beneath national rate at 14 percent

4. Bed and ICU occupancy rate higher than 70 percent

The limitation of people's mobility is by limiting the capacity of the workplace by ordering 75 percent work from home, online learning, and cutting the business hours of malls and transportation services.

Previously, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, was considering lockdown after Indonesia recorded more than 110.000 active COVID-19 cases as other countries are doing that. Wanting to avoid lockdown, Jokowi asked all ministers to work harder in managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
