PRESSURE OVERSHADOWS THE 2019 ECONOMY

Jakarta - Global economic pressures are predicted to continue, coupled with the fragile condition of the domestic economy, has the potential to overshadow Indonesia's pace of economic growth next year.

The World Bank predicts Indonesia's economic growth will be at the level of 5.2 percent in 2018 and 2019. This estimate is based on various things such as investment and holding elections in the next year.

"Based on estimates, in 2018-2019 there will be better performance, Indonesia will maintain a growth rate of 5.2 percent this year and next," said World Bank Chief Economist in Indonesia, Federico Gil Sander at the September Economic Quarterly event in September 2018 at SCBD, Jakarta, Thursday, September 20 2018. 

He continued, investment and elections would contribute to Indonesia's economic growth. Even so, Indonesia is considered to be cautious in facing various risks such as exchange rate volatility.

"Indonesia actually has sufficient export figures, which is 21.6 percent of GDP. However, this is not large compared to Malaysia and the Philippines. With the increase in infrastructure, exports are expected to increase," he said. 

He added, Indonesia actually already has a strong economic base. It's just that, it is still required to have a better investment so that Indonesian product exports will increase.

"Indonesia must continue increase ambition in trading , so export can more competitive , " he said .
