Presidential Election 2019: Constitutional Court will give a judgment before 28 June

The incumbent opponent, Prabowo Subianto and his team decided to bring the election case to the court. The Constitutional Court is waiting Prabowo to hand over his election dispute to them. It is hoped can bring down tensions atmosphere in Indonesia after 2 days of Jakarta riot.  

On Thursday, Fajar Laksono the Constitutional Court spokesman said that the Court regarding the presidential election conflict will start working next month and a decision has to be made by no later than 28 June.

Based on the schedule, the court will start hearing the dispute on June 11. Another hearings will be held on June 14, 17 and 21.

Prabowo and team were planning to submit his case to the court on Thursday, but later his campaign team's director of advocacy and law Sufmi Dasco Ahmadmentioned that they will submit the dispute on Friday. 

On 21 May 2019, the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced the election results, one day earlier than the deadlines. Joko Widodo “Jokowi”, the incumbent candidate, got 55,50% votes meanwhile Prabowo collected 44,50% vote. The votes difference was 16.957.123 (11%). 

Previously, Prabowo said that his side would not accept the result from KPU and threatened to overturn it through mass action. After the official result released, Prabowo supporters demonstrated in Jakarta on Tuesday and Wednesday but the demonstration turned into a clash after unidentified rioters came.     

Komaruddin Hidayat, the rector of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta, said that the demonstration is no longer necessary since Prabowo and his team choose to bring the case to the court. Komaruddin also asked Prabowo-Sandi to convince their supporters to stand down and follow the rules.
