Poor Relation, China Will Not Issue Individual Travel Permits to Taiwan

China - It is reported that relations between China and Taiwan have been strained since President Tsai Ing-wen came to power in 2016. Tsai Ing-wen's party refused to recognize the idea that Taiwan is part of "one China".

As a punishment, China cut off official communications with Taiwan, increased military training, expelled diplomatic allies, and increased economic pressure on the island.

Not only that, the Tourism Ministry stated that they released the travel ban or stop issuing individual travel permits for citizens who want to go to Taiwan because of current relations between China and Taiwan from August 1.
According to the source, this ban was issued when the number of Chinese citizens visiting Taiwan surged. It is reported that in the first half of 2019, the number of Chinese tourists to Taiwan reached 1.67 million, and the number was increased 28 percent from the previous year.

However, China did not inform on this ban, whether allowing the citizens can visit Taiwan with tour groups or not as only tourists from 47 cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen are allowed to visit Taiwan independently, not with tour groups for this situation.

However, the Taiwan Land Affairs Council, as the island's main policy-making body in China, issued a statement protesting strongly and condemning the move as he said that the decision was made unilaterally without agreement.
