Police Checking Dash Cam Over Car Accident That Left 2 Toddlers Dead

OTSU, JAPAN - A group consisting of children and teachers were hit by a light vehicle. The light vehicle was in a collision with a car that was driven by Fumiko Shintate, a 52-year-old woman. The woman was immediately arrested on Wednesday, right after the accident. The woman stated that she wasn’t paying enough attention when she made the right turn. It led her not being able to see the light vehicle coming from the opposite lane at the intersection. 

The light vehicle driver, Michiko Shimoyama, age 62 was also arrested. However, she was released on the same day after the police concluded that she doesn’t have the responsibility for the collision.

A group of pupils and children were the victims out of this accident. They were taking a walk near the school, Leimond-Oumi Nursery School, as they frequently do when the collision happened. 10 students are injured, 2 toddlers (both age 2 years old) died, and another 2 years old is in a critical condition.

The police are currently checking the dash cam over this accident. The only car that has a dash cam is the light vehicle, so it may quite the time for further information.

Citizens have been putting flowers on the pedestrian where the collision happened, to show their condolences on the tragic accident.
