An incident happened in Popayan, capital of Cauca province, southwestern Colombia, when a small plane – bringing 9 people on it – crashed after taking off from the local Popayan airport, Guillermo Leon Valencia airport, Sunday (15/9). Surrounded by the mountains, Popayan is a city of 270,000 people.

The small plane - the twin-engine Piper PA-31-350 - was taking off to Lopez de Micay, also in Cauca, and it crashed to Junin neighborhood, southwest of Popayan.

There were no missing people in the crash.

There was also one more victim, a 10-year-old boy, who happened to be at the scene during the crash. However, the 10-year-old boy was in stable condition and only suffered minor injuries.

The local aviation authorities are trying to figure the cause of the crash that happened around 2.00 pm local time. Most probably, the cause of the crash was due to engine failure.

The wreckage of the small plane scattered all over the roofs of the houses in the neighborhood. The mayor asserted that he had formed a working group to help people in the neighborhood affected by the incident.
