Pinterest new office in Singapore to expand service in the Asia Pacific

The US-based company Pinterest is officially opening its new office in Singapore on July 10, to increase its reach in the Asia Pacific. This is the second office in the region for the visual discovery platform after its Tokyo branch office opening in 2013.

The Singapore office is primary to provide service for users in Southeast Asia and India as well as to support development in this region as Pinterest viewed that Asia Pacific (APAC) is one of the fastest-expanding markets.

Ayumi Nakajima, the Pinterest Country Manager for Southeast Asia and India will be the head of the new office in Singapore and lead a “small team of local talent”. The company is planning to hire local staff since The Business Times reported that currently there are less than 10 people in roles within the team, such as creator managers and marketing division.

However, Pinterest said the firms will keep its number of employee small in the near term.

Currently, the Singapore team has collaborated with regional partners such as Vogue India and Miss Maini from India and MasakTV, Tastemade, and Femina Magazine from Indonesia.

Pinterest users from APAC is claimed to have escalated for more than 50% over the past year. There are more than 250 million people in the region use the platform every month, which more than half of them are not from the US, according to Pinterest.

Food, fashion and travel, and home décor are popular ideas among Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines and India users, said the company.
