Pikachus to Protest Japan’s Coal Energy

MANILA - Pikachu is up in arms with mankind to tackle environmental threats. Pikachu is perceived by the world as one of the icons which directly represents Japanese culture and identity.

So, using their identity as a weapon, 350.org Pilipinas, an environment support group in Manila, capital of the Philippines, wore costumes as the lovely Pokemon to rally against the Japanese embassy on Tuesday (25/6), concerning their support for the coal industry that is not eco-friendly.

The rally came up as a reaction to the support for the coal industry by G-20 governments, despite the fact that the world needs to cut carbon emission to alleviate itself from the scorching global warming.

Overseas Development Institute (ODI) pointed out that at least US$64 million went to support for the coal industry annually with Asian countries dominate the figure. Japan has the least contribution in the heinous support from these Asian countries with US$5.2 million. This fact, unfortunately, is contrary to the vow taken by the world to make the world a greener place by cutting fossil fuel and other eco-unfriendly materials.

“If the world wants to break out of the climate change and global warming, then they have to dedicate themselves to stop the coal and carbon emission,” asserted ODI. They also added that they had to share a peer review and joint assessment to see how the world will change once they stop using coal.
