Pierce Brosnan about 007: 'Get out of the way, guys! Let a woman do it now.'

Pierce Brosnan, an Irish actor who was famous for playing the British secret agent, James Bond or 007, spoke up about the probability for an actress to play the masculine role. He stated that for 40 years, the franchise had been using actors for the secret agent role.

Brosnan himself played the flamboyant, ladies-man agent for seven years form 1995 – 2002. The 66-year-old actor said that female James Bond would not only exhilarating but also exciting.

“The guys have done it for 40 years,” said Brosnan, “get out of the way, guys! Let the women do it. I think it will be not only exhilarating but also exciting,” added him.

Currently, James Bond was portrayed by British actor Daniel Craig and is set to play the 25th installment of the Bond franchise, “No Time to Die” (Bond 25), which will be released in 2020. Brosnan doubted that Barbara Broccoli, the producer for the Bond’s franchise, would let actress play the 007.

“I doubt that she (Broccoli) will do it. Not under their watch,” said Brosnan.

It is known that Daniel Craig had announced that Bond 25 would be his final movie as 007. The information left the fans in a scramble to seek the next 007. Previously, the fans wanted a “colored” Bond. The fans proposed the idea that Idris Elba should have become the next 007. However, breaking the hearts of many, Elba declined the offer.

While the #MeToo movement has made its way to Brosnan’s head, many people cannot take it positively the idea for women to play Bond. They insisted that James Bond or 007 is supposed to be a man, and to change its gender does not comply to what Ian Fleming, the original creator of 007, had in mind.

Some even jokingly referred to the action as what happened to Ghostbusters in 2016, a total failure. Some even said that applying the logic, then the next “Wonder Woman” should be male. Some said that if they want a female secret agent, then just make one.

Recently, Lashana Lynch, also playing a role in the Bond 25 movie, was rumored to be the next 007. One of the writers for the Bond 25, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, said that it would be a plot-twist, hinting that the next 007 for Bond 26 would be an all-new sensation. Could it be that Broccoli and co finally get rid of the masculine role and make it more feminine? We will see that in Bond 25.
