Philadelphia Graduation Shooting: 1 Killed, 7 Injured

PHILADELPHIA - Graduation was supposed to be one of the most memorable moments of one’s life. The joy of finally achieving the grand toga and finishing higher study had to be stained by blood in Philadelphia. On Sunday (16/6), when students were holding a graduation party, a shooting occurred killing 1 person and injuring 7 other people. Among the injured were 4 teenagers.

According to Police Commissioner Richard Ross, the party was held at a playground in southwest Philadelphia, and about 60 people attended the party. Suddenly, there were gunshots at the party, and after 10 P.M there are already 4 people with multiple gunshots. One of them was confirmed dead afterwards. 4 teenagers ranging from 15 to 17 years old were shot at the legs.

The police stated that allegedly there were more than 1 shooters, and how they escaped the crime scene was still unknown.

Aftermath the shooting, police kept patrolling around the area, afraid of another attack. Nevertheless, the police have not made any arrest due to this case.

This was one of the Philly shooting cases. By the end of Sunday, there were 16 shootings occurred in Philadelphia, leaving 4 corpses and 26 injuries.

Before the graduation incident, a woman named April Coleman (38) was shot to death in the head at CBM deli in North Philadelphia. She was rushed to the Hahnemann University Hospital, but it was all too late.

Due to these shootings, the number of homicide in Philadelphia rose up to 146 cases, 90% of which were done by guns, tabulated Ross.

By this number, certain citizens were afraid that the city would grow careless about gun violence, especially the fact that the police were still clueless about the motive and the shooters’ whereabouts.

Nonetheless, by this unrelenting gun violence, Americans need to scrutiny their Gun Control Act once again; in order to prevent any unwanted shooting.
