People with flu-like symptoms should rest: Abe

The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, urged that to prevent a further outbreak, Japanese citizens across the islands should not do activities if they show cold-like symptoms. The statement emerged as Japan is struggling to contain the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking in a meeting of a government task force on the COVID-19 outbreak, the Prime Minister said that Japanese workplaces should not hesitate to allow their sick employees to take days off. Or, if the conditions suffice, the workplaces should consider teleworking or working remotely from home.

Currently, more and more human-to-human infections cases are confirmed in Japan, involving people without prior travel records to Wuhan, Hubei Province, Central China, the ground zero of the infection. The number had exceeded 600, with over 500 passengers and crews of the cruise ship the Diamond Princess.

Since the outbreak has reached Japan, some Japanese event organizers had to reconsider their plan to hold mass gatherings.

The rise of the confirmed cases also forced Japan’s Health Ministry to urge people with a fever of 37.5 C or higher for four days to consult local healthcare centers or hospitals. For elderly and pregnant women, the period of the fever is set shorter.
