People Under 30 are Now the Targets to Japan's Politics

Japan politicians are now against each other to make the youth voting for them in the next election. University of Tokyo professor Shigeki Uno wrote a review about books that are saying that there is a change in Japan’s political world.

Japan’s politics is known to be conservative and reformative. It is seen at the two parties in Japan, Japanese Communist Party (JCP) and Liberal Democratic Party (LPD). JCP has the reformative image, while LPD has the conservative image. Although the images have been sticking to the parties for years and even decades, it seems like Japanese youth do not see the two parties as ‘hopes’ anymore. People under 30 are expecting to breathe a fresh air when it comes to politics.

It is previously reported that Japan’s birth rate is declining these past few years. However, there are still quite a lot of people under 30 who will vote in the future. There are possibilities that people under 30 will be abstain voters once the election held. To minimize the possibilities, politicians have started to promote themselves using media that could attract the youths

LDP released a video at the end of April which featured Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who was communing with a teenage BMX rider and hip-hop artists. In the video, Abe said that he wants to build the future with these youths. The party also asked Yoshitaka Amano (the artist of Final Fantasy) to team up with them.

It is still unknown whether the strategy did by LDP will work to get the youths vote for them. As the election is coming real soon, the politicians are working harder, so the youths will vote for them.
