Panasonic purchase U.S. software company for several hundred billion yen

Panasonic is in the process of acquiring an American software company.

The company is involved in the development of systems that efficiently connect factories and warehouses to sales floors, and the investment could be in the hundreds of billions of yen range.

According to a source, Panasonic is in the process of acquiring Blue Yonder, an American software company.

Blue Yonder develops supply chain systems that efficiently connect factories and warehouses with sales floors, and has more than 3,300 customers worldwide, including American beverage giant Coca-Cola and German logistics giant DHL.

Panasonic invested 86 billion yen in the company last year to acquire 20% of the shares and is now in the process of purchasing all the remaining shares.

If the deal goes through, the investment could be in the hundreds of billions of yen range, making it the biggest deal since 2011, when Sanyo Electric and Panasonic Electric Works were made wholly-owned subsidiaries for about 800 billion yen.

It is believed that Panasonic aims to develop high-value-added services around the world by integrating hardware and software, combining its products such as face recognition technology and sensors with Blue Yonder's systems.
