Osamu Mukai's reputation as the star of "Paripi Komei" is on the rise, and an offer to star in an NHK historical drama is realistic.
The drama is based on the manga of the same title currently
serialized in the weekly magazine "Young Magazine" and was made into
an anime last year. The drama has a large fan base and is likely to be a
high-profile drama from now on, but Mukai's reputation is said to be on the
upswing as well.
Mukai got her break in 2010 when she played the role of the
heroine's husband, Shigeru Mizuki, in the NHK TV series "Gegege no
Nyobo" (Gegege's Wife). Since then, he has been sought after for dramas
and movies, and in recent years has also made his presence felt in supporting
roles. A TV source said, "In March, he appeared in
the Amazon Prime distribution drama "Angel Flight International Hearse
Repatriator" starring Ryoko Yonekura, and in fact, he is scheduled to
appear in the July-cool TV Asahi drama "Inspector Daimajin" starring
Toma Ikuta. Then there is "Palipi Komei" starring and delivering
dramas, and he is continuing to appear in dramas for practically three
consecutive cool seasons. He has the acting ability to play both leading and
supporting roles, and is popular because he is easy to use and is not the loud
type or "actor idiot" that is common among mid-career actors,"
says Mukai. Mukai has received offers to star in a
variety of productions, and if his performance continues, it is likely that he
will receive a big offer to star in an NHK historical drama. Mukai's many
appearances in NHK productions have made him a favorite among the production
staff, and they believe that he is ready to take on a major role.
