Osaka Red Light District To be Closed During G-20 Summit

OSAKA – G-20 Summit 2019 will be held in Osaka, Japan on June 28 until June 29. G-20 Summit is a huge international event, so a lot of preparations are going to be done to make the event runs smoothly.

The G-20 Summit is actually formally known as the “Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy”. In other words, G-20 Summit is a forum for international economic cooperation. At first, G-20 only discuss about macro economy and trade. However, the recent G-20 Summit also discussed other topics such as development, climate change and energy, health, counter-terrorism, as well as migration and refugees. Each G-20 Summit will be attended by leaders from 19 countries and Europian Union (EU).

During the event, a major red light district in Osaka will be closed. The red light district will be closed for the first time in 30 years. On February 24, 1989, the Osaka red light district was closed during the funeral of Emperor Hirohito.

From June 24 through June 25, all 159 members of the Tobita Shinci association will not operate. This decision is made in order to avoid causing disruption in the area. The official also stated that they are hoping Japan will get a good feedback after the G-20 Summit.
