Online riders sprayed with disinfectant in Surabaya
A number of online ride-hailing riders (ojol) in Surabaya, East Java, were sprayed with disinfectants. At least, 600 online riders and drivers were sprayed in the wake of preventive measures against the transmission of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in East Java.Speaking on Sunday, the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, said that the action was initiated jointly by the local disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) and East Java Provincial Transportation Office. The disinfection on the online riders and drivers has started since Sunday, following the disinfection of public transportation on Monday last week.
Three locations in Surabaya became the disinfection center for the ojol:
1. Tugu Pahlawan,
2. Frontage Ahmad Yani, and
3. In front of the Grahadi State Building.
Khofifah added that the disinfectant spraying across the East Java comes into effect since Monday last week, starting from religious sites, public facilities, social facilities, terminals, and Islamic boarding schools. Furthermore, all 16 Type B Terminal within East Java Government’s coordination is also doing gradual disinfection starting from the passengers’ seat and all buses.
Disinfection is also done by five regional coordination agencies (Bakorwil) of East Java Government, targeting the public facilities and social facilities.
The East Java government on Saturday recorded 41 positive cases: 29 from Surabaya, 5 from Greater Malang, 3 from Sidoarjo, 3 from Magetan, and 1 from Blitar. The number of under-surveillance patients is growing. Currently, there are 88 patients in East Java and 999 people under-monitor.
Nationally, on Sunday, the number of patients tested positive for COVID-19 rose by 64 people, amounting to 514 people. The death toll rose by 10 people to 48, while the number of recovered people also rose by 9 people to 29.
