One Weekend, Two Transgenders Killed: Hate Crime?

It is an illegal “killing two birds with one stone”. On the same weekends, two transgenders were reportedly killed. From this murder, one had been identified and the alleged murderer was arrested by the police. Most of the world currently hate LGBT, however, was not this too far?

There were 5 cases nationwide in America that involve murder against colored transgender people, and 2 of which happened in the same weekend, only 24 hours apart from each other. In Philadelphia, Michelle Washington (40) – known by the name “Tamika” – was shot a couple of times on Sunday Morning by Troy Bailey (28).

The same day at night, Bailey went to the Police as witness to the shooting. However, he then admitted that he did the shooting, due to an argument about firearms. His status was raised from a witness to a convict. He was charged for firearm charges and murder.

Just one day before the event, Muhlaysia Booker – a transgender that survived 12 April’s Mob Beating incident – was found dead in Dallas. Edward Thomas (29) was charged by the Police for mob violence, when he beat up Booker over a minor car incident happened on 12 April, but he was not imprisoned for the charge. However, concerning Booker’s death, Thomas was found innocent. Police is still investigating this case.

The question that lingers on the case is: Is this a hate crime? Washington’s death was not proven to be a hate crime. Nonetheless, if this was not a hate crime, why transgenders? Why did they target colored transgenders?
