On the highest ground, the new State Palace for new capitals: Jokowi

It is set that in 2024, the capital of Indonesia will move to East Kalimantan, precisely in North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara. State Palace will also be built there. The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, generally known as Jokowi, hinted that the State Palace will stand at the highest.

Not in terms of height, but location. Observing the new location for the new capital in Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser, Tuesday, Jokowi said that the State Palace will be built on the highest ground in the region.

The visit to Sepaku District was the first for Jokowi after he determined the locations for the new capital. By coincidence, the location appointed by Jokowi is the highest in the area. The ministerial offices will be located nearby the State Palace.

However, the road to the State Palace was made difficult by the uneven contour. Jokowi denied that he chose the location on purpose. The president assured that the architects and urban planners will be delighted to see the location.

Regarding the speculation that the development of the new capitals will be difficult, Jokowi denied such things. The speculation emerged because the new capitals are located on the industrial plantation forests (IPFs), not “just” forests.

Jokowi stated that the IPFs had been acquired by the government for such a reason. From 256,000ha of land, about 56,000ha will be used as the main region of the new capitals. About 5,600ha will be used as the government complex.

Nonetheless, there is no exact page layout design for the new capitals just yet. But, the deadline for the design is by the end of 2019.
