On 1st COVID-19 anniversary in Indonesia, Ahmad Riza Patria: It is under control now

Remembering the anniversary of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Indonesia, the Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, claimed that Jakarta is proven competent in controlling the spread of COVID-19.

Speaking at Jakarta's City Hall on Monday evening, Ahmad said that Jakarta has put the COVID-19 under control, while the statistics said otherwise. Ahmad also stated that the 1.6 percent mortality and 95.3 percent recovery rates meant that Jakarta had shown some improvements. While Jakarta recorded 2,098 cases on Monday, Ahmad still believes that Jakarta is able to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, the Deputy Governor also a member of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) stated that the COVID-19 control might be seen from the decrease of the hospital bed occupancy rate and ICU for COVID-19 patients. Ahmad tabulated that the isolation room is filled to 64 percent, and ICU reached 70 percent. Ahmad pledged to increase the capacity and equipment for the medical workers to treat COVID-19 patients.

Accompanied by the former Health Minister, Terawan Agus Putranto, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), announced the first case of COVID-19 in Indonesia on 2 March 2020. The patients were two people from Depok, West Java, who contracted SARS-CoV-2 after interacting with a Japanese resident who also happened to be COVID-19 positive.

By Monday, Jakarta has collected 326,059 COVID-19 cases. From the number, 5,528 people died and 341,793 recovered.
