Omnibus bill is finished: Airlangga

Speaking on Monday, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartanto, revealed that the Indonesian government had already finished the draft for Omnibus Law on job creation. He said that the draft is ready to be submitted to the House of Representatives (DPR).

Whether the draft will be passed by DPR, Airlangga could not give any expectation. He only told the people to wait and see.

Previously, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that he would sign the Presidential Letter on the Omnibus bill on job creation. However, for Jokowi, the bill still needs scrutiny and perfection; therefore, the letter has not been signed yet. If the bill is ready, Jokowi pledged to sign the bill as soon as possible, without delay.

Jokowi admitted he had only signed one presidential letter regarding the Omnibus bill on taxation on Wednesday. The letter with the bill will be submitted to DPR.

The Indonesian government struggles to complete the Omnibus on job creation. The bill is expected to revise 1,244 articles from 79 acts. The bill has been discussed with 31 ministries and agencies. Moreover, the Omnibus bill had received suggestions from various stakeholders like seven worker confederations and the other 28 worker unions.

The Omnibus bill will cover investment, employment, small-medium enterprises, research, innovation, government administration, sanction, land, and government project on economic and industrial sectors.
