Nuclear fuel reprocessing plant passed the examination, but also an issue for residents' evacuation plan A in concern to the Tsunami in Aomori
In July, the spent nuclear fuel reprocessing plant of Japan Nuclear Fuel (Rokkesho-mura, Aomori Prefecture) was officially adjusted in July to meet the new regulatory standards of the country, and concrete design of safety measures construction was planned with the goal of completion in the first half of first part of 2021. It was decided to start the examination of the plan. However, there is a possibility that the government will not be able to deal with the tsunami damage that the government has newly assumed regarding the evacuation plan for residents in case the event of a nuclear disaster occurred, and there are concerns from the local community especially in Aomori.
On July 30th, when the reprocessing plant passed the national examination, President Naohiro Masuda of the nuclear fuel visited Mr. Toda, the mayor of Rokkashomura, to report regarding this matter. In response to an interview with the press, Mayor Toda expressed his hopes for the completion of the factory, but also referred to the emergency evacuation of residents, saying, "We recognize that securing roads is important when formulating an evacuation plan."
