Notify the UN, Trump officially withdraws US from WHO

President Donald Trump officially pulled the United States out of the World Health Organization (WHO). This was known after the US notified the United Nations (UN), Tuesday (7/7). Quoted from AFP, a State Department spokesman said the US had told the United Nations that they officially left the WHO effective on July 6, 2021.

Senator Robert Menendez of the Foreign Relations Committee confirmed via Twitter. "Congress received a notification that POTUS officially withdrew the US from WHO amid a pandemic."

As reported by CNN, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General António Guterres claimed to have received the notification and was conducting verification with WHO whether all withdrawal conditions had been met by the US. The provisions include giving one year notice and meeting financial obligations.

Trump's plan to end US-WHO relations was announced at the end of May. That was in the aftermath of the US's disappointment with the WHO's failure to overcome the spread of the coronavirus. Before breaking up, the US had already stopped donating Uncle Sam's country to WHO.

The US donates US $ 445 million to WHO each year from a total of US $ 4.8 billion in the agency's budget. The amount is the biggest from other countries.
