North Korea Fired Its Third Missiles in a Week

It is reported that North Korea fired a missile on Friday, August 2, in the morning. It was their third missile fire in spare of two weeks. According to BBC, the missile was launched at 02.59 a.m. and 03.23 a.m. local time. South Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the missile was launched from Yonghung, Hamgyong, and it aimed for Japan’s East Sea.

After the launch, it is reported that Trump is still calm in facing North Korea’s provocation. U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton explained that Trump thinks Kim Jong Un did not violate the agreement they made on June. In the agreement, Trump and Kim agreed to discuss about the denuclearize after their meeting at the DMZ. A professor from Massachusetts Technology Institute Vipin Narang also thinks that the missile launch was a part of diplomatic approach.

The official Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim Jong Un was satisfied with the rocket test they did on July 31. Moreover, he thinks that the test proved that the tactical data and technical characteristics of the new system are succeeded. In addition, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, KCNA did not mention any country to be the target. Nonetheless, the report sort of referred to Seoul as the potential target.

Although U.S. thinks that the missile launch was a part of diplomatic approach, South Korea thinks otherwise. They said that the launch is more likely to show anger over the U.S. – South Korea joint military exercises.
