New York beats Tokyo to become the most innovative city in the world

The result from Innovation Cities Index 2019 on Tuesday showed that New York became the new most innovative city in the world. Previously in 2018, the position was held by the capital of Japan, Tokyo.

The Innovation Cities Index, provided by 2thinknow, assesses 500 cities around the world by 100 indicators for society, technology, and work innovation.

Tokyo, crowned as the most innovative city in the world in 2018’s edition, received the second-best and London, received the second most innovative city in the 2018’s edition, took a step down to the third place. From the European region, only London, Paris, and Berlin made it to the top 20.

Cities from China, such as Beijing and Shanghai, made a large jump in poll’s ranking thanks to the development of the digital currency.

In 2019, New York has shown a top-notch performance in smart tech and start-up companies; therefore, it was considered the most innovative. However, New York is not the only state shown in the index. There were also Los Angeles and Chicago.

Since the beginning of the poll in 2007, Chicago, making its way in the top 5 for the first time, saw the rise of start-up companies and universities.

How about Silicon Valley in San Francisco Bay? San Francisco Bay only reached ninth places despite housing big companies such as Apple, Google, and Facebook. The problem was that San Francisco Bay was still haunted by tech controversies, privacy, and homelessness.

Approaching the 2020 Presidential Election, some of the tech juggernauts received backlashes for allowing political ads and concern over election security.
