New facility for elderly care for families infected
There are cases where a family member who cares for the elderly at home is infected with the new coronavirus and there is no support for nursing care, Saitama Prefecture has set up a dedicated facility to temporarily accept and care for the elderly. We have decided to install a new one and start accepting it as early as next week.
According to Saitama Prefecture, in their households with elderly people who are receiving long-term care at home, there are cases in which the family members living together are infected with the new coronavirus and have no support for long-term care, making it impossible for the elderly to live.
For this reason, Saitama Prefecture has decided to set up new facilities in the prefecture to temporarily accept elderly people and provide long-term care services in such cases. The facility will be built on the premises of a special nursing home for the elderly in the prefecture and will be accepted as early as next week as it can accommodate 20 people in 5 locations.
Those who can enter the facility are those who have been certified as requiring long-term care and have been confirmed to be negative by the PCR test and will be able to receive services at the facility until their family members living together can take care of them. According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and Saitama Prefecture, there are local governments that accept elderly people into existing facilities, but it is rare in Japan to create new dedicated facilities.
