N. Korea letters S. Korea regarding COVID-19

On Wednesday, the Supreme Leader of North Korea (N. Korea), Kim Jong-un, sent a personal letter to his South Korean (S. Korea) counterpart, Moon Jae-in. In the letter, Kim offered his sympathy and condolences for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the land.

Moreover, Kim hoped to console his Korean brothers and sisters struggling to fight the COVID-19 which had infected over 6,000 people and took the lives of 37. Moreover, Kim also felt frustrated that he could not do much to help S. Korea fight the COVID-19.

A senior official of the Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae), Yoon Do-han, confirmed the letter on Thursday. Yoon also stated that in the letter, the Supreme Leader also stated his concern over Moon’s health, emphasizing the friendship and trust between the leaders of N. Korea and S. Korea. Previously, Kim’s sister, Kim Yo-jong, hurled ill remarks against Moon’s presidential reign.

Together with sympathy and condolences, Kim also conveyed his message regarding S. Korea and N. Korea's political statuses in the Korean Peninsula.

Moon, touched by the letter, replied to Kim Jong-un to show his gratitude for his concern.

Kim’s letter came just a few days after N. Korea launched another ballistic projectile amid the global concern over COVID-19. N. Korea itself repeatedly said that there have been no COVID-19 cases on its soil, a claim questioned by the global medical experts.
