N. Korea demands compensation for fishing boat wreck

On Saturday, North Korea's (N. Korea) Ministry of Foreign Affairs “strongly demanded” the Japanese government to compensate for its wrecked.

Almost a week ago, a fishing boat from N. Korea, intending to poach squids in the Sea of Japan within Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), collided with Japan's sea patrol boat that was chasing it out of the EEZ.

While the sea patrol boat did not experience any significant damage, the N. Korean boat was wrecked so bad, the ship's crews (60 people) had to be rescued, according to the Japanese Coast Guard. The Japanese government pointed N. Korea for illegally poaching in its EEZ.

The spokesman of the N. Korea's Foreign Ministry referred to the incident as a “gangster” act from the Japanese. With the demand, N. Korea also threatened Japan that if Japan did not compensate it, it will face “undesirable consequence”.

N. Korea bashed the claim by the Japanese government that the incident was at fault of the N. Korean, claiming that the ship made a sharp turn. The unnamed spokesman said that the ship was sailing in the correct path and repeatedly stated that the Japanese were trying to wash its hands from the matter.

Japan's Foreign Ministry had not given any comment.
