Myanmar Jet Almost Crashed

MANDALAY - Thanks to the experienced captain, the Myanmar Airline’s jet did not hit rock bottom. The Embraer 190 passenger jet had to do emergency landing after the landing gears of the jet was not functional (12/5). There were 89 passengers on the plane, including crews and the passengers, all to no casualties. All the passengers on the plane had to get down with evacuation slide.

The jet had to do emergency landing at Mandalay Airport, after the front wheels did not show themselves at the landing. Therefore, the plane landed nose first. The captain tried to execute the landing system through the system, to no avail. Then, for the last effort, he tried manual sequence. The jet even had to fly around twice to check whether the fron wheels had functioned again.

Ye Htut Aung, deputy director general of Civil Aviation Department of Myanmar, sang praises to the pilot who skilfully landed the jet with its back wheels. The pilot even managed to contact the airport tower to inform about the emergency landing for preventive measure. Aung added that it was merely a technical difficulty and he assured that all the flights were checked before taking off into the sky.

Due to the incident, the Mandalay Airport had to delay all flights for 2.5 hours before allowing the smaller jets to take off, and larger ones in the afternoon.

This emergency landing marked the second flight incident in the ASEAN country. The first was on Wednesday (8/5), when Bombardier Dash 8 belonging to Biman Bangladesh Airlines also fell off the runway at the Yangon Airport due to bad weather.
