Mount Rinjani's Hiking Trails Officially Reopens with Some Rules

The opening has been done since Friday, June 14 2019. The hiking trails were closed in relation to the series of earthquakes happened in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The opening of Mount Rinjani’s hiking trails based on many important considerations, as told by the head of Mount Rinjani National Park Agency, Sudiyono. He said that the reopening of Mount Rinjani hiking trail had passed several considerations about the safety and convenience.

As quotes by Tempo, Sudiyono said, "We surveyed the area more than five times to ensure its safety prior to opening the hiking trails." He also added that the ecomony of the locals depend on the work they do in providing service for the mount hikers. Therefore, since last year, the locals were unable to make a living properly. They are also victims of the earthquakes who lost homes and everything they have. This action of Mount Rinjani National Park Agency were also taken with some rules.

Many restrictions were made to ensure the safety of the hikers. They are prohibited from hiking to the peak of Rinjani and Lake Segara Anak. The hikers will only be allowed to travel to Pelawangan. Another rule is the limitation on number of hikers. The maximum hiker numbers is 500 people, including porters and guides. They are are permitted to enter four official trails in one day, which are Sembalun in East Lombok, Senaru in North Lombok, Aik Berik in Central Lombok and Timbanuh in North Lombok. All hikers who are going up and coming down will be recorded to avoid any illegal activity. The rules are made for the common good of people.
