Mona Lisa Is An "Incomplete" Painting

Throwing away the gloomy Middle Ages, Renaissance had resulted in many artists and pioneers of greater movement in the following era. Name one, and the name that most people can come up with will be Leonardo Da Vinci. Born in Italy, Da Vinci was a pioneer in terms of paintings, architecture, literature, and other artistic fields, even science. From all the works, Mona Lisa stood as the most iconic piece of art ever made by the Italian artist, painted just around 5-6 years before his death due to stroke that struck him since age 65.

If the imperfection is what makes things perfect, then the same theory can be applied to Mona Lisa painting. Stored in the Musee du Louvre, Paris, France, the painting sparked controversies from scientific to mythical ones. The latest controversy is that the painting is in fact “incomplete”.
Recent study published in Royal Society of Medicine shows that the painting is actually incomplete, said Dr. Davide Lazerri, the lead author, in the journal. Comparing the painting, a picture of Da Vinci from 16th century Lombard artist Giovan Ambrogio Figino and time of Da Vinci’s death, the doctor concluded that before he could finish the painting, severe nerve damage in his right hand halted him permanently.

Despite being known as ambidextrous, Leonardo Da Vinci was known to rely on his right hand to paint. Therefore, due to the severe trauma to his right arm, he acquired ulnar palsy which paralyzed his hand in a claw-like position; hence, unable to continue the renowned painting.
