Head of the Center for Research and Development of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicines of the Ministry of Health, Akhmad Saikhu, said that until now there was no herbal concoction with the status of Covid-19 medicine.

Saikhu said that his office recorded 12 herbal concoctions that have been scientifically tested.  But there is no one specifically to treat Covid-19.

"Then the question about products or ingredients for Covid-19. Indeed for Covid-19 there is no cure, except if there is a vaccine that is being clinically tested," Saikhu said in the Synergy & Innovation for Global Health Security & Pandemic webinar,  Saturday (7/25).

In his presentation, Saikhu detailed the efficacy of 12 herbal medicines that were scientifically tested.

The usefulness of each is to treat arthritis, hemorrhoids, impaired liver function, weight loss, urinary tract stones, facilitating breast milk, physical fitness, blood sugar levels, high cholesterol, gastric or gastric disorders, high blood pressure, and gout.

Saikhu said there was indeed no herbal medicine that treated Covid-19.  What there is is a herbal medicine that is efficacious to increase immunity.  The herbal medicine consists of ginger, turmeric, and meniran herbs.

The use of herbal medicine or traditional medicine for Covid-19 had previously been announced several times by a number of officials, including by Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto.

Terawan said the Ministry of Health is encouraging the use of traditional medicines in the management of corona in health facilities.  One of them is with standardized herbal medicine (OHT) and phytopharmaca.

The former Head of the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital pointed out the extract and ginger and cork fish as a supplement in the treatment of corona virus (Covid-19) that could be used.
