Minister of Science and Technology Inoue and Chairman Kajita of the Science Council to talk on the morning of the 23rd
Shinji Inoue, Minister of Science and Technology Policy, will meet with Takaaki Kajita, Chairman of the Science Council of Japan, on the morning of the 23rd over the ideal state of the Science Council of Japan. The government plans to consider reforming the Science Council, and they are expected to exchange views on the roles and functions expected of the Science Council.
Regarding the science council, the science council and opposition parties opposed the appointment of six of the 105 member candidates recommended by the council to Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. We are asking you to explain the appointment of six people and the reason for seeing them off.
The prime minister explained that the reason for the postponement was that the members of the Science Council were special civil servants, and "the result was that the recommended people could follow the precedents that had been appointed as they were." On the 16th, he met with Mr. Kajita at the Prime Minister's Office and agreed that the government and the Science Council would communicate with each other about the ideal state of the Science Council.
The Liberal Democratic Party has also set up a project team to proceed with discussions, and plans to make recommendations to the government by the end of this year.
