Mayor of Hyogo and Tamba, who was defeated, criticized the winner's "50,000 yen benefit" pledge
Mayor Shinji Taniguchi, 67, who was elected mayor of Tamba on The 15th, held a press conference on Thursday to criticize the pledge of "50,000 yen per citizen" pledged by tokihiko Hayashi, 66, the former chairman of the city council, who was elected.
Mr. Hayashi has appealed for 50,000 yen per citizen to be provided with financial resources such as the City Hall Construction Fund to support the life of the new coronavirus. In response, Mayor Taniguchi said, "The 50,000 yen benefit is difficult, and it is not too practical to destroy all the construction funds for the city hall, which will eventually have a useful life." "The budget (for benefits) is about 3.2 billion yen. There is no backing of the national expense, and it is 10 to put it out by the single expense of the city. We will use about half of the city tax revenue of about 7 billion yen, and there are concerns about the decline in administrative services."
Regarding the hope that the next mayor will be succeeded, he said, "I hope that cooperation with local governments, universities, and companies, especially good relations with Tamba Sasayama City, will continue."
Deputy Mayor Tetsuya Onito, 65, also met and announced that he would resign as deputy mayor, served since 2013, in keeping with the mayor's resignation.
