Maritime Self-Defense Force collision accident Investigation

On the 8th, in the accident where a submarine of the Maritime Self-Defense Force collided with a private commercial ship off the coast of Cape Ashizuri in Kochi Prefecture, the 5th Division Maritime Security Headquarters is investigating damage to the submarine moored near Kochi Port.

Around 11:00 am on the 8th, a private commercial ship collided with the Maritime Self-Defense Force submarine "Soryu" about 50 km offshore southeast of Cape Ashizuri in Kochi Prefecture.

The submarine is currently moored near a breakwater about 400 meters from Kochi Port. The 5th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters sent the Kochi Coast Guard patrol boat "Tosa" early in the morning of the 9th to investigate damage to the hull of the submarine.

After the patrol boat checked the condition of the hull around the submarine, 12 coast guard officers boarded the submarine by boat and investigated mainly the bent part of the steering wheel.

The 5th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters is also conducting interviews with the crew of submarines and will investigate the condition of the hull of commercial ships in the future. According to the 5th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, the merchant ship is currently heading for Kobe Port, so the Maritime Security Headquarters anchored off the coast of Kobe Port on the afternoon of the 9th and dispatched divers to the merchant ship to the extent of the damage. "We will investigate such things," he said.

In the video taken from the NHK helicopter, you can see that the right side of the "casino" called the "submarine rudder" is bent.

This "steel" is for changing the vertical direction and adjusting the depth of the dive, and it is bent from the vicinity of the root.

Also, from the video, you can see that the upper part on the right side of the part called "sail" that stores the periscope and antenna is also damaged.

Under these circumstances, the Maritime Self-Defense Force is investigating the situation at that time, assuming that the right side of the upper part of the hull collided with a merchant ship.
