Many Tokyo Firms Unprepared for Olympic Traffic Congestion

TOKYO – As the day of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 is getting closer, many preparations need to be done. To know whether each operating company is ready for the big event, a survey has been made recently.

There are 475 respondents of the survey which was conducted in March by the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry. However, 44.3 percent of them said that they have not come up with a strategy for the Olympics, while they know they need to start doing it as soon as possible.

80.3 of the companies are ready to change their operation system, in order to lessen congestion in the Japanese capitals. There are 10,000 correspondents for this survey.

It is been predicted by the organizing committee of the Tokyo Games that the congestion will be twice as bad as now, if nothing is planned to reduce it. The companies are encouraged to make their staffs work from home, to lessen the congestion, especially during the rush hours. Shift delivery times and routes are also asked to make a few changes.

According to the survey, only 5.1 percent of them stated they have started discussing the matter internally, while 3.4 percent have begun discussing plans with clients. However, only 0.6 percent is in the process of compiling an action plan.
