Many Challenges, European Investors Still Positive Investing in Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia - According to the survey of business confidence index research (BCI) from European Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in Indonesia (EuroCham), the result shows 60 percent of European investors surveyed said they still have high confidence to invest in Indonesia, even though Indonesia's economy still faces many challenges.

The survey was done by 780 investors from 9 to May 26, 2019, as the 7th annual survey designed and managed by the British Chamber of Commerce (BritCham). BCI presented series of economic highlights and government performance on future revenue, number of employees, profits and investment in Indonesia.

He stated that the index of confidence in the infrastructure sector edged up 1 percent to 76 percent in 2019 compared to the index period in 2018.

However, in a more detailed statement, BritCham Honorary Secretary Nick Holder said there were several sectors in which European investors' business confidence index rose towards Indonesian market. First, the infrastructure whose index increased slightly by 1 percent to 76 percent compared from the previous month.

Second, the education sector which reached 55 percent or increased 9 percent compared to before. Third, the private sector reached 56 percent, up 5 percent compared to before.

Despite the challenges, so far the European Chamber of Commerce considers that the business prospects in Indonesia are still relatively stable this year compared to the previous year and many investors are adding their investments in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, BritCham Board Chair Ainsley Mann said, even though all perspectives appeared to be positive, various sectors were still struggling to get enough appeal to produce potential in accordance with needs in line with other ASEAN countries.
