Mango Harvest Reached 2 Million Kilograms, Anxiety attacked Philippines Farmers

Philippines - The El Niño climate phenomenon seems overwhelmed the Mango farmers in the Philippines as their abundant Mango harvest that reached 2 million kilograms making the fruit is hard to sell to the market and to handle in their yard this week.

The Farmers in Luzon even provide free mangoes with bags of mangoes outside their farm gate due to the "unusual increase" in the harvest this time.

The Minister of Agriculture of the Philippines, Emmanuel Piñol stated that, this oversupply resulted in the price of the mango falling from 58 pesos (IDR 15 thousand) to 25 pesos (IDR 6 thousand) and making loss to the Philippines farmers who did not expect this to happen.

According to the source, as a result, to ensure that the mango supply did not rot and ruin, the Ministry of Agriculture launched a marketing campaign "Metro Mango" with the aim of moving millions of kilos of the mangoes to Metro Manila. This campaign invites stalls throughout the capital city to sell mangoes this June in the mall and publicly in street stalls.

However, luckily, this action resulted in one of the Japanese fruit importers interested and promised to buy 100 thousand kilograms of mangoes from the Philippines, making the Philippines farmers and government feel glad and relieved.

The El Niño climate phenomenon itself is reported to cause unusual humid and dry weather this year, making the plants especially fruits to grow and increased immediately.
