Manchester United Draws 1-1 Against Huddersfield, Bidding Champions League Goodbye

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s managing era, Manchester United had to kiss Champions League goodbye after a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town. With this rather disappointing result, not only did The Red Devils fail to make it to the top four, but also they had to satisfy themselves with playing in the Europa League, the Tier 2 competition in European football, for 2019-2020.

Playing at John Smith’s Stadium, homeground of Huddersfield Town, The Red Devils played confidently in the first half. At the eighth minute, Scott McTominay, a homegrown young United player, managed to hit the ball into the net from an error from Juninho Bacuna, giving Manchester United the early lead. The game seemed to favour the Devils. That was until the second half began.

In the second half, Manchester United decided to try their youth, by playing Tahith Chong and Diogo Dalot. Twenty minutes played, Isaac Mbenza sealed Manchester United doom by equalizing the score after De Gea failed to keep the ball from passing through his legs. The score stayed on until the end of the 90th minute.
With Chelsea’s 3-0 win against Watford, it is certain that Manchester United has to satisfy themselves with playing in Europa League for the next season. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s draw against Brighton means that Manchester United still gets the chance to make their way to the fifth position.
