An Indonesian tech expert said that during major sporting events, cyberattacks are more likely to happen since the built system is still public. The CEO of NTT Indonesia, Hendra Lesmana, said that it should be secured by design before the event.

Moreover, in the upcoming October 2020, Indonesia is about to hold the 20th National Sports Week (PON) in Papua.

NTT Communication is a provider firm for network management, security, and solutions. The firm is a subsidiary company of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, both are telecommunication companies from Japan.

Speaking in a briefing, Hendra explained that “secured by design” means that the system needs to be closed right from the start; so that hackers might not be able to get through. Since the exposure is bigger, a sporting event certainly will hail hackers.

Again, Hendra pointed out that phishing is the most frequently used method by hackers. For example, due to phishing, the commentator of a football match will be unable to see the players’ data on the screen.

Regarding system security in the upcoming PON, Hendra reminded us that the system must be secured by design. He also mentioned the digital twin, data that includes habit and pattern comprehension. Through data twin, an individual or group might get a faster, more accurate, and cheaper conclusion.

NTT also manages the system security for the annual Tour de France. In 20 days of the event, NTT received 1.5 million cyberattacks. Hendra boasted that no single data were leaked to the public and once again, it was all thanks to the “secured by design” concept.
