Mahathir: Muhyiddin is a 'traitor', actually

The former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, disagreed with the inauguration of the new Malaysian PM also the President of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu), Muhyiddin Yassin. Even the 94-year-old politician said that Yassin is a “traitor” to the party and the country.

Muhyiddin is not the right PM, said Mahathir.

Speaking in a press conference before Muhyiddin’s inauguration at the State Palace on Monday morning, Mahathir said that while Azmin Ali has his own political agenda, the true traitor is Muhyiddin who already aimed to be the PM from the start.

In front of the press, Mahathir said that Muhyiddin did not pocket the majority of the vote from Dewan Rakyat, so actually, he does not deserve the PM seat. Therefore, Mahathir urged the Malaysian parliament to submit the motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin.

Furthermore, Mahathir also said that he and five parliamentary members of Bersatu also will go against the inauguration.

Mahathir Mohamad resigned from his position as the seventh PM of Malaysia on Monday, an action allegedly related to being a political maneuver in Alliance of Hope (Pakatan Harapan) to form a new coalition with United Malays National Organization (UMNO), an opposition party once ruling in the reign of the former Malaysian PM, Najib Razak.

The new coalition was proposed by the former representative of the People’s Justice Ministry (Partai Keadilan Rakyat/PKR), Mohamad Azmin Ali, which consisted of Bersatu, UMNO, and Malaysian Islamic Party. PKR then decided to dismiss Azmin and other coalition politicians who were considered having committed treason.
