Ma'ruf to attend COVID-19 vaccination program for athletes

Speaking at a virtual press conference on Wednesday, Indonesia's Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs, Zainudin Amali, claimed that the Vice President of Indonesia, Ma'rud Amin, is going to attend the vaccination program against novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) for athletes at Istora Senayan on the upcoming Friday.

There will be approximately 820 persons including athletes, coaches, and supporting officials to receive the first COVID-19 vaccines.

For the first stage, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs and the Ministry of Health will limit the recipient of the COVID-19 vaccine, only for those who are scheduled for preparation and activities, both foreign and domestic. As the COVID-19 is still looming large in the nation, both ministries are still implementing the COVID-19 health protocol in distributing the vaccines to prevent crowds and another COVID-19 hotspot.

For the next state, both Youth and Sports Affairs and Health Ministries will adjust the vaccine recipients for athletes, coaches, and supporting officials outside Jakarta. Therefore, both ministries have talked with the Regional Health Agencies according to the previously verified data.

Zainudin stated that those who are scheduled for foreign events such as Summer Olympics, SEA Games, and other events, will be prioritized. Not to mention, those who also will compete on the domestic level will be also prioritized.

The Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry planned to hold the vaccination to regional scope in order to prepare for the 2020 National Sports Week (PON) in Papua. From the Ministry, there are more than 12,000 people and counting for the vaccine.
