Ma’ruf Amin: Let us not blame others for COVID-19

The Vice President of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin, encouraged all of the Indonesian people to not point fingers and blame others and the government in handling the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Indonesia.

Released by the Secretary to the Vice President on Wednesday, Ma’ruf’s statement came after some parties urged the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to dismiss the Minister of Health, Terawan Agus Putranto, deemed him incompetent to handle the pandemic. The urge came from the civil coalition consisting of 12 civil organizations.

Ma’ruf also reminded the people that as the President, Jokowi has the full authority to appoint or to replace his ministers. Instead of blaming, the inactive chairman of the Ulema Council of Indonesia (MUI) said that Indonesian people should help each other in preventing the COVID-19 from spreading further without blaming others.

He added that calming the people, educating the people on the dangers of the COVID-19 is also deemed integral and seeking the solutions together is important in battling the COVID-19 in Indonesia.

Repeating the safety measures, Ma’ruf warned the people to avoid mass gatherings to prevent COVID-19. If they show symptoms of COVID-19, the vice president instructed them to immediately get themselves checked to the hospitals.
