LOMBOK EARTHQUAKE: MINISTRY OF PUPR ACCELERATING LOMBOK RECOVERY RECONSTRUCTION

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said his office would accelerate and reconcile after the earthquake in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

"We estimate that there are 36,000 homes and 150 schools severely damaged," he said at the Office of the Vice President of the Republic of Medan Merdeka Utara Street on Monday (08/20/2018).

Even so, the data was calculated before aftershocks struck Lombok on Sunday (08/19/2018). Basuki said that he continued to calculate the damage as well as the losses that befell the citizens and the government in the province.

He added that it had sent 150 people and hundreds of engineering students to help the process and reconciliation in various parts of Lombok which were devastated by the earthquake.

Especially for general development, such as markets, mosques and government offices will be built by state-owned enterprises.

"The budget from BNPB and the Ministry of PUPR emergency funds," he added.

Meanwhile, for the construction of residents' houses, Basuki revealed that he would use the concept of Re-KOMPAK or community recovery as he had previously done at Mount Merapi, Central Java.

The government had previously provided Rp50 million in cash per household to build damaged houses. The funds are given to accelerate development on the surface. People who do not need to wait for government funds to flow.

"It's not THIS [Value] of assistance, they have to move too. If we wait, we will fix it for a long time. If everyone moves, each with IDR 50 million is hopefully faster," he explained.

For house repairs, Lombok earthquake victims whose residence, the central body has allocated Rp. 50 million for each head of household.

For the initial stage, the government has distributed 1,000 families. The funds are distributed gradually starting on Tuesday (08/14/2018).
