List of Easing Health Protocol Rules: Remove Mask and Remove PCR

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – The Covid-19 Handling Task Force (Satgas) stated that Indonesia has entered a transition period from a pandemic to an epidemic of the corona virus.

“We are already in the transition from pandemic to epidemic, the pandemic has not been completed globally and that has been determined by WHO, and we have entered a transitional period,” said Covid-19 Task Force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito at a press conference on Tuesday 17th May.

The Minister of Coordinating for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy also said that Indonesia had de facto already headed for the Covid-19 endemic.

Muhadjir said the condition refers to the data on Covid-19 in Indonesia. These include the number of active cases, the positivity rate, the hospital occupancy rate, and the low mortality rate.

This condition was then followed by a number of relaxations for community activities and the easing of the Covid-19 health protocol. Some of them are:

Take of Mask in an Open Area

Indonesian president Joko Widodo (Jokowi) decided to easing the use of masks amid the Covid-19 conditions in Indonesia. The policy came into effect on Wednesday 18th May.

However, Jokowi stressed that the use of masks still applies to residents who carry out activities in closed rooms and public transportation.

“First, government has decided to easing the policy on wearing mask,” said Jokowi, as broadcast live via the Presidential Secretariat’s youtube channel.

"If people are doing outdoor activities or in open areas that are not crowded with people, then it is okay not to wear masks," he added.

The use of masks still applies to people who are categorized as vulnerable, elderly, have congenital or comorbid diseases and symptoms of Covid-19.

No need for PCR and antigen if the vaccine dose is complete

After Indonesia was declared to be entering a transition period, the government decided to abolish the examination policies related to the corona virus, namely PCR and rapid antigen tests. The policy also came into effect on Wednesday 18th of May.

The easing of the policy only applies to Overseas Travelers and Domestic Travelers who have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine or a booster dose.

"For domestic and foreign travelers who have received the full dose, there is no need to carry out PCR or antigen tests anymore," Jokowi said in a statement broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube channel, Tuesday 17th of May.
