Lidl first London store is about to launch

As it opens 40 new shops across the capital in the next five years, Lidl is about to launch its first store in Central London. According to the German discount chain, Lidl would invest more than £500m in London and create 1,500 jobs at the new stores located in Alperton, East Acton, Hackbridge and Watford. Currently, Lidl has 88 shops in the capital out of other 760 stores in the UK.

Lidl will open its store on Tottenham Court Road near Warren Street tube station as the first shop in the heart of London. The store will be full-size Lidl store with 1,300 m2 shop floor, selling full range of products and due to open next summer.

A new headquarters in Tolworth in south-west London has been built to house 800 staff and plans to build a new warehouse in Luton and expanding another warehouse in Belvedere which delivers to the stores in South London.

George Charles from the MoneySavingHeroes website said that what is worst about living in London is the sheer cost of everything, forced to shop in expensive stores around the city. Lidl expansion will hopefully make at least a small difference giving people a chance to shop with a more affordable price in London.
